[Blog] Fighting to Stay as the Pride of Anglia
Written by Karl_Fuller on Friday, 27th Nov 2009 16:34

Many years ago, in the East of England's genteel corner dubbed by the Anglo-Saxons as 'East Anglia', the folk of Suffolk and Norfolk had ideas to create football clubs which are known today as Ipswich Town and Norwich City.

For many years, the pair sparred with one another at various levels in various leagues, from the Eastern Counties League to the FA Premier League and all the while, one would claim to be better than the other and therefore believed that they were the Pride of Anglia.

Each club certainly experienced better times than the other on various occasions but historically, only one would really prosper in collecting silverware and thus becoming the real 'Pride' - despite one night in Munich being shown to all on national television which left the nation brainwashed into believing it was the Norfolk county that ruled supreme.

But fast forward from the Anglo-Saxons famous battle back in 1066 to some 943 years later and neither side could claim to have too much to shout about. The good folk of the 'Blues' had occasion for hilarity not so many months ago as they watched those in yellow fall through the trap door of yet another level of the game into the third tier, complete with tears of sorrow and this allowed for much jubilation among those who were happy to no longer go head-to-head in battles with those Norfolk lot in the immediate future. For those who would miss these days, only time would tell as to how long they would have to wait for them to return.

The joy was heightened in the knowledge that a victory by three goals to two in the falling warrior Magilton's last battle helped to send the yellows on their sorry way and then the arrival of 'King Keane' threatened to enhance the Blues' domination of East Anglia for many years to come and those with a blue-tinted outlook believed that nothing would now stand in the way of Suffolk's pride, indeed, Anglia's Pride.

But as each club looked for renewed battles at differing levels, the yellows started to fight their way past many who stood in their way and started to rebuild themselves for a future threatening those with bigger and tougher resources.

Meanwhile, back south in Suffolk, the folk who were hailing King Keane's rise to the throne in the belief that automatic success would bring 25,000+ gatherings to the worshipped land of Portman Road for each battle started to become a little disillusioned and many started to join the ranks of the more level-headed type and wondered what the initial fuss was all about.

The newly selected participants chosen for battles did not add to the fire power already in place, in fact, some in place who were renowned fighters had to retreat to obscurity and were not used until it was realised that they were in fact some of the better equipped members of King Keane's armoury.

But as battles unfolded, not many were won and as those looking in started to question tactics and personnel, King Keane became Raging Roy and in a desperate attempt to become a force again, Roy appointed a man simply known as John to try and salvage some victories from the many enemies standing in the way.

The pair were to become perplexed as the situation got more serious. Roy became even more keen and John became stern as the pair tried to lead their troops out of the trenches to ensure that they could compete again and gain the strength to succeed and be prepared for the yellow army that were growing once more and threatening to appear over the horizon for the next bid to take the Pride of Anglia mantle back once more to end many years of frustration of settling for at least second best.

The Blues must find the steely resolve to conquer the challenges that lie ahead if they are to remain the number one force in England's little south eastern corner.

That may be the case, but the real question is, what can we achieve now under Keane?

A decent blog. I agree with the first post - Norwich will never achieve what we have. As for Keane - well he may still come good.

a very entertaining read, very well written with some valid points and amusing metaphors in place to make them. Nice work

Do you know what? I'm one of those funny buggers who actually PREFERS us and the scum to be in the same league because of the derbies. I was actually
(shamefully and very secretly) a bit pissed off when they went down, although I was laughing too... As long as they never beat us, I was always happy enough for them to win just enough games to stay up - which was probably more than one in seventeen come to think of it...

loved the article, something different and entertaining. Steely resolve, king keane has reminded us of our inner strength and so far it has been a wonderful journey, he has reminded us who we are. We are the tribes that turned back the incredible warriors of the japanese nation. We can handle adversity and keep smiling, our dignity intact

3-0 on major trophies (wars) ! 12 -1 in europe (BEF) miles ahead in old farm battles, ultimate victory was won many years ago, only partisan battles remain.

we will soon rise up the table, norwich have quite a long run of tricky games coming up, which will mean only the play offs at best for them, in which they will gat stuffed by Huddersfield, thats why agent Jordan was sent to the bowels of football
